Times have changed from the time of the old CRT TV’s that were bulky and had those environmentally unfriendly cathode ray tubes in them and as the technology changed and progressed, so have TV stands. Gone are the times when high profile TV manufacturers such as Sony and Panasonic supplied a TV stand with every TV purchase. Such manufacturers have since focused on the development of the technology and have let smaller manufacturing companies support the public with a full complement of TV stands and accessories. Rather recently the trend of new slim line TV’s has ultimately prompted the changes and designs we see in TV stands today. So in order to keep pace with the modern world, TV’s and their TV stands have morphed into a wide selection just as diverse as the world’s population.
In the beginning, TV manufacturers were most concerned with supporting the weight of the TV. In fact, the sturdier the better in their opinion; however, with the new trends in the industry towards the larger and more stylish slim line plasma/LCD TV’s, this naturally progressed into a need for a special designer series that is more apt to
balance the newer sleek lines indicative of TV’s today.
In fact TV brackets have also changed. Over time they have become thinner and more manoeuvrable to support the new generation of flat panel screens, allowing features like swing arms to allow a wider range of viewing positions which ultimately makes this solution slightly more practical than its original counterpart of a stationary TV stand. This led to the invention of a new range of TV stands known as cantilever TV stands that combine a TV bracket and a TV stand into one new stylish look.
One of the biggest TV stand manufacturers is Alphason, but other companies, some who had a long history of manufacturing TV stands for the TV manufacturers, started to produce their own range of designer and luxury TV stands and AV furniture which could even accommodate additional components such as AV amplifiers, multiple digital set top boxes, and both DVD and Blu-Ray players, as well as video game systems such as Xbox 360 or Nintendo Wii.
